GOVERNEDOperating standard

Credit Dispute Integrity Standard

Every dispute should be specific, truthful, supported where possible, and directed to the correct organization.

Only challenge what is genuinely at issue

A dispute identifies information the consumer believes is inaccurate or incomplete. NDR will not encourage blanket disputes, false factual statements, false identity-theft reports, or a challenge to information the consumer knows is accurate.

Connect each claim to evidence

The file should identify the account, disputed field, reason, requested correction, and supporting records. The FTC recommends sending copies of supporting documents and keeping originals. Each disputed item should stand on its own facts.

  • Exact item
  • Exact reason
  • Supporting copy
  • Requested correction
  • Delivery and response record

Respect the investigation

A bureau or furnisher controls its investigation and response. Federal law and CFPB guidance describe process obligations, but a submitted dispute does not guarantee deletion, a score change, or a favorable response. Material conflicts go to an authorized human and, when needed, qualified counsel.

Common questions

Clear answers, clear limits.

Will NDR dispute every negative item?

No. Negative is not the same as inaccurate. The facts and records determine whether a dispute is justified.

Can I claim identity theft to remove a debt?

Only if identity theft actually occurred. False reports are prohibited by this standard and can create serious harm.

What if my evidence is incomplete?

Mark the item unresolved, gather additional records, and avoid asserting more than the evidence supports.
